After a grueling struggle through 225 miles of rough desert terrain, Matt Lasher pulls the #1 spot in his class PRO850 at the Pure 225. After Matt's last crash the Teryx was in pretty bad shape. Matt knew what had to be done and kicked it into high gear to get the Teryx back into racing condition. During the Race at about mile 6 they had overheating issues and had to pull over to let it cool down, while getting passed by everyone in which he just passed. On Lap 2 they broke the bolt that connects the upper arm to the spindle, fixed that up and with the foot on the floor made up a lot of time. Every lap after that pretty much was switching out the battery do to charging issues. Matt and his team took every setback in stride and pushed themselves to beat what the desert had to offer. It was an added plus that he came out on top!
Quote from Brapbrap1124 (Fernando) on Instagram:
" Finishing 225 miles of Brutally Fast Mojave Desert race course isn't easy. Battling a fresh car with only weeks of preparation and resources literally minutes leading up to the green, not for the weak at heart. Pushing thru for the WIN...that's what the legends are made of! Congratulations to Team @sxsperformance and The Stig @ Matt Lasher for bringing home the win"

2013 proved to be a phenomenal year for so many reasons. The AVE Pure Side-X-Side Off-Road Desert Series was a huge hit among the UTV crowd, and the racing produced in the California City desert was second to none. In the end, champions were crowned and great racing was to be had as the series concluded with the Pure 400.
Truth be told, it is extremely rare to see a rookie enter into a racing series and go on to win the Championship. No matter what sport you’re talking about, it’s a difficult task because of all the extreme talent in the racing world these days. A championship would seem like an impossible goal to attain! Unless you are Matt Lasher…
Matt Lasher started driving his Kawasaki Teryx at a young age. Under the arm of his dad, Mike, who has an enormous amount of off-road driving credibility in his own right, Matt learned how to take the reigns of an off-road vehicle. He began to understand the art of negotiating different trails to perfection, while also learning how to “save his stuff” for when it mattered most. Through his learning years, Matt honed his skills to become the crafty driver he is today. And, it wasn’t until the 2013 season when Mike decided that it was a good time to put his son behind the wheel and see what he could do.
Fast-forward almost 8 months and a handful of races, Matt has taken his SXSPerformance Kawasaki Teryx to victory lane three times this season. When he wasn’t winning the races, he was right up front, often showing everyone how well he could do against drivers with much more power underneath their right foot. Through it all, Matt drove clean, drove clever, and drove like a champion on his way to the inaugural AVE Production 850 championship!
Matt and his entire SXSPerformance crew would not be where they are today without the help of key sponsors to help get their Teryx to the finish line. Those dedicated sponsors include: SXSPerformance, GBC Motorsports, OMF Performance, PRP Seats, UTV Underground, and Walker Evans Racing.
Let’s all give a BIG Congratulations to Matt as he takes home his first championship! Here’s to many more in the future!

The SXSPerformance center is SXSPerformance.com’s idea of a supercenter designed and tailored to every Side-X-Side need a customer may have. This will allow the consumer even better access to all of the parts and products SXSPerformance.com offers, and you can be sure that your order will arrive on time and in perfect condition, as always.
The access to more parts for your Side-X-Side won’t stop with just SXSPerformance’s enhanced online, in stock selection. With the new performance center, there will be a huge showroom for visitors to browse through. Because of this new hands-on experience, customers will be able to browse a massive selection of parts and performance products for their UTV before they pull the trigger on their purchases.
In addition to the hands-on experience, the SXSPerformance center will offer customers with opportunities to have the products they purchase from the center installed on their UTV’s, all at the same location. Full installation bays are being put in for this exact purpose. While having this opportunity to get your new parts installed on your Side-X-Side is fantastic, what if you could leave your trailer in the fenced lot at the SXSPerformance center for added convenience? You guessed it, and this is the reality! The SXSPerformance center has plenty of room to store your trailer while your vehicle is being worked on, and you can have the piece of mind knowing everything is safe behind a fenced lot and in a secure building.
Be sure to mark your calendars and come over to check out the new facility! We are moving June 15th and plan to have a Grand Opening soon after. Keep an eye out for that date on the SXSPerformance website and Facebook page, and be sure to contact SXSPerformance to reserve your service spot! After a disappointing finish at Round 7 where we lost the race lead by running out of fuel, we were determined to fixthefuelgaugeissueandreturnto StoneyLonesomeinCullman,ALwithhighexpectations.
Octane Race Team partner, MPFab, put together a very trick dry break f uel f ill system and site tube which solved our f uel issues f rom the previous race.
With the fuel issues solved and the car prepped a week early, we were fortunate enough to be invited to bring the center seat RZR XP 900 out to the Motus block party in Birmingham,ALthe weekend before the race.We were able to talk about the upcoming UTV Rally Raid event, explain all about UTV racing, and share some good information about our team sponsors. The bike crowd showed great interest in the attention to detail put in our Polaris RZR.
Race Recap
October 21, 2013
Starting from row 6, we ran the entire race in the dust, never seeing clean air. Unfortunately this killed our chances at setting the fast lap time, but it did allow us to settle into a decent pace and start ticking off the laps. Blue Torch Fab ran an excellent pit and kept everyone informed of all of the changing race topology and lap count. Fortunately, we did not have to bring the RZR into the pits f or anything but fuel.
Charging hard through the high speed UTV Rally Raid course was never a concern thanks to our HiPer Racing Wheels and GBC Dirt Commander tires. We chalked up another four race hours on this wheel tire combination with zero issues. I also need to give a big plug for King shocks. From the last race, we made a very subtle compression change which put them right in the sweet spot. The shocks were flawless all through the night.
The race lead was hotly contested throughout the evening with several teams within striking distance of the overall. The UTV Rally Raid series has a unique way of scoring teams (multiple drivers and multiple UTV’s) directly alongside “ironman” entries. The rules heavily favor team entries, which makes competing solo a risky affair. Thankfully, it worked out for us this race and the RZR was flawless all night long.
After 16 laps and four hours, our center seat Polaris RZR was able to best the second and third place teams by one minute, barely squeaking out the win.All in all, it was a great night with nearly perfect weather. Overcoming the dust was, thankfully, the largest challenge of the night.
Again, we can’t give thanks enough to our team sponsors. Without their help, this wouldn’t be possible:
Polaris, GBC Motorsports, HiPer Technology, Octane Media, ATVScene.com, Blue Torch Fab, Yoshimura, King Shocks, DirtyDawg Performance, SXSPerformance.com, K&N Engineering and Benchmark Performance.
